Police have recovered the dismembered bodies of two women and a child near their home in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.
The bodies were found wrapped in sacks on the banks of the Paschimpara pond in the Mizmiji area on Friday afternoon.
The victims have been identified as Swapna Akter (35), her younger sister Lamia Akter (22), and Lamia’s three-year-old son, Habib. They were residents of Mizmiji Paschimpara and daughters of a man named Samad. Police have detained Lamia`s husband, Yasin, in connection with the incident.
According to locals, the three had been missing for the past four days.
Shirin Begum, the victims’ maternal aunt, said: “My sister’s daughters were orphaned at a young age. Lamia had married for love and had a child. Her elder sister, Swapna, was mentally unstable. We hadn’t been able to contact them for the last four days. Today, we found out that both sisters have been killed. Lamia’s husband was known to be a scoundrel, and there were frequent problems in their household. We don`t know who killed them, but we demand justice.”
Mohammad Shahinur Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station, said, “The bodies have been recovered. We have detained Lamia`s husband. Further details will be disclosed after investigation.”
