India Tests Missile Interception Amid Tensions
  24, April, 2025, 7:27:58:PM

International Desk : Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply escalated following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 people, including foreign nationals, were killed. In the wake of the attack, the Indian Navy successfully conducted a missile interception test on Thursday (April 24).

India has accused Pakistan of indirect involvement in the Pahalgam massacre, prompting a series of retaliatory measures. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking special visa privileges for Pakistani citizens, expelling Pakistani military advisers from the High Commission in New Delhi, and closing the main border crossing.

In a statement on social media platform X, the Indian Navy announced that the indigenously built destroyer INS Surat had successfully intercepted a low-flying missile over the sea, marking a significant milestone in India`s defense capabilities.

Meanwhile, Pakistani naval forces are scheduled to conduct a surface-to-surface missile test near Karachi between April 24 and 26.

In response to India`s actions, Pakistan`s government criticised the moves as "childish" and convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) to formulate a response. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated, "We will deliver a strong and appropriate reply to India—this will not go unanswered."

The attack in Pahalgam on April 22 targeted a popular tourist area in South Kashmir. Among the 26 killed were tourists from the UAE and Nepal, as well as two local residents. Seventeen others were injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his trip to Saudi Arabia and returned to India immediately. Upon landing in New Delhi early Wednesday, he declared that those responsible for the attack would face justice and receive no leniency.
