RMG workers from 22 factories rally outside Australian HC
  26, April, 2025, 11:39:49:PM

Workers and representatives from 22 Bangladeshi garment factories rallied in front of the Australian High Commission in Dhaka, on Saturday, April 26, demanding that Australian garment importer Mosaic Brands Limited settle outstanding dues.

The protest was organised by the Bangladesh Garment Sramik Sanghati.

Speakers at the rally included the organisation`s president, Taslima Akhtar, vice president Anjan Das, general secretary Mizanur Rahim Chowdhury, and worker representatives.

Following the rally, a memorandum with five key demands was submitted to the Deputy High Commissioner by Taslima Akhtar and worker representative Abdul Malek.

The Deputy High Commissioner assured the group that the matter would be addressed, but emphasized that any action would follow legal procedures.

Labour leaders accused Mosaic Brands of embezzling approximately Tk 250 crore from the 22 factories over an extended period, leading to the closure of Jas Apparels due to unpaid dues. They warned that other factories face a similar fate. The protesters demanded the immediate repayment of the embezzled funds, compensation for affected workers, and a criminal investigation into Mosaic Brand’s actions.

Additionally, the rally called for the Australian government’s intervention to ensure the company, accused of fraud and operating in bankruptcy, is brought to trial in an international court.
