The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has roped in Australian speed demon Shaun Tait as the national team’s Pace Bowling Coach, a move set to electrify the Tigers’ fast-bowling unit.
The 42-year-old, known for hurling thunderbolts during his playing days, will join the squad later this month on a contract stretching to November 2027, bringing a wealth of global coaching experience and a hunger to drive Bangladesh to victories.
Tait, a 2007 World Cup winner with Australia, has coached pace attacks for Pakistan, West Indies (Test team), and Afghanistan, alongside stints in elite leagues like the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, Lankan Premier League, and English County Cricket.
His recent role as Head Coach of BPL’s Chittagong Kings, where he also played in 2012-13, gives him a foothold in Bangladesh’s cricketing pulse.
With 59 international matches under his belt, Tait’s pedigree as one of cricket’s fastest bowlers—once clocking 161.1 km/h—adds firepower to his appointment. “It’s a new era for Bangladesh cricket,” Tait said, eyeing the team’s crop of young fast bowlers. “These aren’t just talents; they’re expected to deliver results. My focus is sharpening the pace group to win more matches.”
His enthusiasm for working with head coach Phil Simmons, a seasoned tactician, promises a dynamic partnership.
Bangladesh’s pace attack, featuring emerging stars like Nahid Rana, has shown promise but lacks consistency.
