Ancelotti`s Brazil appointment stands firm despite CBF president`s removal
  16, May, 2025, 2:56:18:PM

Despite a major shake-up at the top of Brazilian football, Carlo Ancelotti`s position as head coach of national team remains secure. Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has been removed from office by a court ruling, but interim leadership has confirmed that Ancelotti`s appointment will not be affected.

In a significant development within Brazilian football, president of Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, has been officially removed from his position following a court decision.

Rio de Janeiro’s judicial court appointed Judge Gabriel de Oliveira, who subsequently named Fernando Sarney as interim president of CBF.

The decision comes just days after Rodrigues announced the high-profile appointment of Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti as new head coach of Brazil`s national team. CBF had issued a statement confirming Ancelotti’s hiring, even before the conclusion of La Liga season and prior to the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid.

Concerns quickly emerged over whether the change in leadership might impact Ancelotti’s future with Brazil. However, interim president Fernando Sarney addressed the issue directly, assuring public and coach that Ancelotti`s position remains unaffected. "The contract is with CBF, not with Ednaldo Rodrigues personally," Sarney emphasized. “Football will go on as football should. I’m here only in a temporary capacity and I won’t create any disruptions.”

Brazilian news outlet Globo further reported that CBF officials Rodrigo Caetano (general coordinator) and Juan (technical coordinator), who are currently in Madrid, have personally conveyed this message to Ancelotti; assuring him that there is no obstacle to his coaching role despite Rodrigues’ removal.

Though Ednaldo Rodrigues is out of office, he remains eligible to contest the upcoming election, which the court has ordered to be held by June 6. This isn’t Rodrigues` first removal; he was previously ousted but returned through re-election. However, he now faces serious allegations of forging signatures to secure his presidency; a key reason for his current dismissal.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti is set to begin his official duties with Brazil on May 26.

He is expected to announce his first squad shortly thereafter, although reports suggest CBF may send a preliminary list to FIFA ahead of that.

Following his departure from Real Madrid, Ancelotti is scheduled to lead Brazil in matches against Ecuador and Paraguay as part of his opening stint.
