  19, May, 2025, 10:51:42:PM

(BSS) - The National Consensus Commission today concluded its first round of talks with political parties through holding a meeting with the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).

Commission’s Vice-Chairman Prof Ali Riaz, members Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Md. Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser`s Special Assistant Monir Haider were present in the meeting held at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Ali Riaz said the first phase of discussions with political parties, which started two months ago, ended today.

“In these discussions with political parties, we have been able to reach consensus on many issues and we also have differences of opinion on several issues," he said.

He hoped that they would be able to start the second phase of discussions on all the issues on which there are differences of opinion on a thematic basis and quickly move forward with the preparation of a national charter.

A seven-member delegation of CPB led by its General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince joined the meeting.

The National Consensus Commission has been formed under the chairmanship of the interim government`s Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to build a national consensus on the reform issue.

The commission began its activities on February 15 and officially began discussions with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on March 20.

It held discussions with 33 political parties including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Ganaodhikar Parishad, Gana Sanghati Andolon and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party.
