Online Report : Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that Beijing attaches great importance to its relationship with Bangladesh, marking 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
In a congratulatory letter written to Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Xi highlighted the “traditional friendship” and “long history of exchanges” between the two neighbors, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka said on Saturday.
Xi noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations five decades ago, China and Bangladesh have built a relationship based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, setting an example of mutual respect, equality, and win-win cooperation despite changing regional and global landscapes.
He added that in recent years, the two countries have strengthened mutual trust, expanded practical cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and deepened their comprehensive strategic partnership.
“China values its relations with Bangladesh and stands ready to work with President Shahabuddin to advance traditional friendship, deepen cooperation, and achieve shared development for the benefit of both peoples, while contributing to global peace and development,” Xi said.
In his message, President Shahabuddin praised the enduring friendship built on mutual respect and trust, which has brought tangible benefits to the people of both nations. He expressed gratitude for China’s “long-term and valuable support” for Bangladesh’s sustainable development and acknowledged Beijing’s vital role in promoting regional peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
Shahabuddin expressed confidence that joint efforts by the two countries’ leaders and peoples would deliver even greater results in bilateral cooperation in the future.
On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus also exchanged congratulatory messages.
Li said that China highly values the development of China-Bangladesh relations, and stands ready to work with Bangladesh to take the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to accelerate high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
He also said China is willing to collaborate across various fields, while promoting the continued growth of the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
On his part, Yunus said that since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations 50 years ago, the friendship between the two peoples has grown stronger, bilateral ties have developed steadily, and cooperation has yielded fruitful results, which is worth celebrating.
"Bangladesh is committed to promoting new achievements in the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries," he added.
