Argument in crimes against humanity case against Hasina begins Sunday
  11, October, 2025, 10:02:26:PM

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) is set to begin arguments on Sunday in a case filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two others on charges of crimes against humanity.

According to ICT sources, once the arguments are completed, the case will be ready for judgment.

A three-member bench of the tribunal, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, fixed the date for arguments on Wednesday after hearing the final deposition of the prosecution’s last witness and investigation officer, Md Alamgir.

Out of 54 prosecution witnesses, several key testimonies were heard from members of martyred families, including the father of martyred Abu Sayeed, National Citizen’s Party Convener Nahid Islam, and Daily Amar Desh Editor Dr Mahmudur Rahman.

Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam and prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Gazi M H Tamim are representing the state. The tribunal has appointed Advocate Amir Hossain to defend fugitive accused Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

Another accused, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who has given a confessional statement and turned state approver, is being represented by Advocate Zayed Bin Amjad.

The ICT-1 had framed charges on July 10 for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the July–August 2024 uprising.

Besides this case, two other cases are pending against Sheikh Hasina, involving allegations of killings and enforced disappearances during her 15 and a half years in power, as well as a massacre at Hefajat-e-Islam’s rally at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar.

Currently, two separate tribunals are trying Hasina, her party’s top leaders, and a section of loyal government officials for their alleged roles in crimes against humanity following the fall of her government on August 5 last year.
