Bangladesh-Mauritius keen to work together to boost trade, commerce

Online Report : Bangladesh and Mauritius are keen to work together in different sectors, including tourism, education, agriculture, communications, connectivity and ICT, to explore the possible areas of collaboration and investment between the two countries.


They came up with the common opinion as the visiting Mauritian President Prithvirajsing Roopun paid a country call on Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in the capital on Saturday evening.

During the meeting, both the Presidents called for joint investment in two country`s potentials sectors, including trade and commerce, President`s press secretary Md Joynal Abedin told the news agency after the meeting.


Mauritius President, who is currently in Dhaka on a three-day visit for attending the 6th Indian Ocean Conference, emphasized on tourism, fisheries and ocean economy - three cluster areas of cooperation to work together under the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

He expressed his eagerness to invest in Bangladesh`s special economic zones and high-tech parks.

Expressing happiness over his first-ever visit to Bangladesh, President Roopun described the long-standing Bangladesh-Mauritius relations "excellent".

He cited the recent high-level visits and highlighted connectivity, people-to-people contact and a collaborative approach in the areas of economic and development for fostering the ties.

President Roopun highly lauded the remarkable socio-economic progress made Bangladesh in many areas in recent times.

Citing Mauritius as a multi-ethnic society, the Maritain President expressed happiness over the role of Bangladeshi expatriates in Mauritius.

Welcoming his Mauritian counterpart, President Shahabuddin apprised the Mauritian president of the socio-economic growth that Bangladesh has achieved a "role model of development" across the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. With the "Vision 2041", the government is now working to build a `smart` Bangladesh, he added.

The President thanked the Mauritian government for looking after the Bangladeshi expatriates in Mauritius.

President Shahabuddin expressed gratitude to the government of Mauritius for their consistent support to the Rohingya issue.

Referring to the shipbuilding industry in Bangladesh, the President urged Mauritius to import ships including cargo vessels from Bangladesh.

He underlined on more high-level visits, air connectivity, and exchange of training in agriculture, education, and IT sectors to develop existing relations between the two countries.

The Head of the State expressed his sincere thanks to the government of Mauritius for naming a street in Port Louis after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Earlier, Bangladesh President and his spouse Dr Rebecca Sultana welcomed the visiting Mauritian President and his Spouse of Sayukta Roopum by presenting bouquets at the Presidential palace.
