The interim government is all set to officially inaugurate a farm-to-market initiative today in two egg wholesale markets in the capital for bringing eggs directly from the stores of smallholders and big producing companies to the markets bypassing middlemen.
The scheme was announced Tuesday but would be officially launched past midnight at 4 am Thursday, to ensure that each farm egg is sold at Tk12 to end consumers.
Md Alim Akhter Khan, director general of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, would inaugurate the initiative at Kaptan Bazar in the capital.
Initially, 20 lakh pieces of farm eggs would be supplied to Tejgaon and Kaptan Bazars.
For ensuring success of the scheme, all the stakeholders in the poultry industry, including big corporations like Kazi Farms and Paragon Poultry, have been brought under a single platform named Bangladesh Poultry Industries Coordination Committee (BPICC).
The scheme would be gradually expanded across the country.
