Seven officials and employees of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samiti-2 have been suspended following the deaths of three students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) from electrocution inside a picnic bus in Gazipur.
Md Akmal Hossain, general manager of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samiti-2, confirmed the matter at about 11:30PM on Saturday.
The suspended personnel are deputy general manager (Technical) Kamlesh Chandra Bormon, deputy general manager (Mawna Zonal Office) Khondoker Mahmudul Hasan, AGM Md Tanvir Salauddin, junior engineer Matiur Rahman, and linemen Parvez Mia, Shakhawat Hossain, and Abul Kashem.
Around 460 students from Mechanical Engineering Department of the university boarded on six BRTC double-decker buses and three microbuses going to Matir Maya Eco Resort in Sreepur. When the buses reached Udaykhali bazar, one of the bus touched a live high-voltage power line, leaving several students of the bus electrocuted.
They were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared three students--Mozammel Hossain Nayeem, 24, Mostakim Rahman Mahin, 22, and Jubayer Alam Sakib, 22-- dead.
