Dhaka University Suspends Monday`s Classes and Exams
  27, January, 2025, 11:02:32:AM

The Dhaka University administration has suspended all classes and exams scheduled for Monday, January 27, due to clashes and altercations between students of Dhaka University and those of its affiliated seven government colleges.

Acting Director of the university’s Public Relations Office, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, confirmed this information late Sunday night (January 26) around 2 AM.

He stated, “Due to unavoidable circumstances, all classes and exams of Dhaka University scheduled for today, Monday (January 27), have been suspended.”

Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed urged students to remain calm, stating, “We request students to maintain peace. The university will issue a notice confirming that there will be no classes or exams tomorrow.”

Earlier, tensions erupted when Dhaka University students gathered to prevent students from the seven affiliated colleges from surrounding the residence of the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed. The situation escalated into a clash between the two groups.

Meanwhile, residential students of three university dormitories were seen taking a defensive stance near their halls. This scene was observed around 12:30 AM. The situation in the Nilkhet and New Market areas has somewhat calmed compared to earlier.

Both groups engaged in repeated chases and counter-chases. So far, eight individuals have been reported injured in the incidents. To stabilize the situation, four platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed with police assistance.
