Two children drowned in a canal at Ramu upazila in Cox`s Bazar district on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred on Sonaichhari canal at Ilishia Para area under Joarianala union in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Abdullah Habib, 7, son of Kamal Hossain and Yasin, 6, son of Romzan Ali. Both are from Ilishia Para village in the upazila and paternal cousins.

Joarianala Union Parishad Chairman Shamsudddin Ahmed Prince confirmed the incident.

According to relatives of the deceased`s, two children went to play secretly without their family`s knowledge. At one point, they drowned in the canal.

After a long search, their bodies were found floating in the canal water.

Later, locals recovered the dead bodies.

Ramu Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Emon Kanti Chowdhury said, "I have heard the news of the tragic deaths of two children by drowning in the canal."
