Speeding truck rams into bus in Savar, two killed

Two people were killed early Friday after a speeding truck rammed into a passenger bus in Savar.

The accident occurred around 6:30 AM on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, in the Aricha-bound lane near Savar bus stand area.

The dead were identified as Md. Hossain, 55, hailed from Osman Nagar village under Charfassion Police Station in Bhola district, and Sayat Sheikh, 35, Sadar Ali Madbor Kandi village under Jazira Police Station in Shariatpur district.

According to highway police, a passenger bus belonging to `Thikana Paribahan` had stopped to pick up passengers in the area. At that time, it was hit from behind by a speeding truck. Both Sayat Sheikh and Md. Hossain were critically injured in the crash. They were rushed to Savar’s Super Medical Hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saugatul Alam confirmed the matter.

Police have seized both the involved truck and the bus, although the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

OC Saugatul Alam added the bodies of the victims have been handed over to their respective families, as no formal complaints were filed regarding the incident.
