Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda passed away on Saturday morning at his Gulshan residence at the age of 83.
According to family sources, he breathed his last around 9AM at his residence in the capital.Later, he was taken to United Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held once his daughter returns from the United States.
Shamsul Huda left behind wife, daughter and a host of relatives and well-wisher to mourn his death.
A former bureaucrat, Huda was appointed as chief election commissioner on February 5, 2007, during the caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed.
He served in the role until 2012.
Born in 1941, Shamsul Huda began his public service career by joining the Pakistan Civil Service in 1966. Following Bangladesh`s independence, he transitioned into the Bangladesh Civil Service and held various important government roles.
