Online Report : A senior officer of Bangladesh Police has been detained in India’s North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal while allegedly attempting to cross the border, according to Indian media reports.
Times of India reported on Saturday night (23 August), citing administrative sources, that the officer was apprehended by Border Security Force (BSF) between 6 and 7 PM near Hakimpur Border Outpost. He was later handed over to West Bengal Police.
The report did not disclose the name of the officer.
Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government following the mass uprising on 5 August last year, many senior police officials have fled to India. Most of them were known loyalists of the ousted authoritarian leader and are reportedly accused in cases related to the killing of protesters during the uprising.
