DUCSU polls a `power-sharing deal between BNP-Jamaat, Chhatra Dal-Shibir`: Abdul Kader
  9, September, 2025, 11:30:23:PM

Vice president (VP) candidate from Anti-Discrimination Student Council panel has alleged that Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election has turned into a `power-sharing arrangement` between BNP-Jamaat and their student fronts—Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Speaking to reporters at TSC premises on Tuesday night, Kader claimed the election was neither for true student representation nor democratic practice, but rather a prearranged distribution of influence.

“We repeatedly said this Election Commission is incompetent, inexperienced, and submissive. It’s divided into two factions—one serving Chhatra Dal and the other serving Jamaat-Shibir,” he said.

Kader accused candidates of repeatedly violating the electoral code of conduct while the commission stood idle. “We saw Chhatra Dal candidates openly campaigning on Facebook, mocking the commission. Yet this submissive commission took no action.”

He further alleged that both internal and external mechanisms were in play:

“Abu Shadik Kayem, VP candidate backed by Islami Chhatra Shibir, was maneuvering inside. Chhatra Dal was orchestrating from outside. No one followed proper guidelines.”

Kader also said they reached out to returning officers but received no response.

“Despite these barriers, students enthusiastically participated in the polls. But it is the university administration and this spineless Election Commission who have discredited the election. They must offer an unconditional apology,” he demanded.

The VP candidate concluded by saying the future course of action would be decided after consultations with students.
