  14, September, 2025, 2:35:28:PM

The newly elected members of the Dhaka University Central Students` Union (DUCSU) held the first executive council meeting on Sunday morning, September 14.

Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, also the president of DUCSU, presided over the meeting held at the lounge adjacent to his office.

Newly elected VP (vice president) Md Abu Shadik (Shadik Kayem), GS (general secretary) SM Farhad, AGS (assistant general secretary) Mohiuddin Khan, and other secretaries and executive members were present at the meeting.

In the meeting, the names of five student representatives have been recommended as the Senate members. They are DCUSU VP Shadik Kayem, GS SM Farhad, AGS Mohiuddin Khan, executive member Sabikunnahar Tamanna and transport secretary Asif Abdullah.

After the meeting, Shadik said, “No one lost in this election. We will work together as a team. DUCSU is not about individual victory or defeat, it is the triumph of our martyrs’ aspirations and the spirit of the July Generation.”

He also said the students will hold them (those who hold posts) accountable and they will respond through action as around 40,000 students of the university can raise their concerns with them and they will prepare monthly action plans based on their feedback.

Laying emphasis on inclusivity, GS SM Farhad said they want to work as representatives for all and they have agreed to highlight students’ demands and problems and will soon formulate and implement a comprehensive plan.

He also said that the meeting discussed sending five elected representatives to the university senate, with the decision to be announced in a gazette.

The appointment of DUCSU’s treasurer will also be finalized, he informed.

Earlier on September 9, the elections to the Dhaka University Central Students` Union (DUCSU) were held, with Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel `Oikyabaddha Shikkharthi Jote` sweeped the polls.

Out of 28 posts in DUCSU, candidates from the panel secured 23 positions, including top three posts – VP, GS, and AGS.
