People want elected govt, parliament: Amir Khasru
  1, October, 2025, 10:44:8:PM

BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Wednesday said people want to see a truly elected government and parliament through a fair electoral process.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after visiting Ranada Prasad Saha Durga Mandir at Mirzapur upazila in Tangail district.

Responding to a question about the proposal for a proportional representation (PR) system, Khasru said, “Anyone can propose PR method. It’s not something BNP or any particular party can impose or deny. If someone wants it, they must go to the people, win their mandate in the next election and then bring it to parliament. There’s no other way.”

He further said, “There’s no scope to delay the upcoming election. People are eagerly waiting for it. They want a parliament and government that truly represent them.”

Referring to BNP’s plans if elected, Khasru stated, “We have taken up massive programmes. If we receive people’s mandate, we aim to create 1 crore jobs within the first 18 months. We already have plans in place on how to implement this.”

He criticised the current administration, saying, “There is no bridge between government and people, which has led to numerous problems. Both the nation and the international community are waiting for the election. After the polls, the country will see positive economic changes, improved law and order, increased exports and imports and solutions to health and service sector issues.”

Khasru also reiterated BNP’s longstanding stance on bicameral legislature, saying, “The two-chamber parliament proposal originally came from BNP. We proposed it eight years ago and again included it in our 31-point reform plan three years ago.”

Tangail BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, General Secretary Farhad Iqbal and other party leaders were also present during the temple visit.
