Four more die of dengue, 942 hospitalised
  20, October, 2025, 6:48:7:PM

Bangladesh continues to grapple with a surge in dengue infections as four more people have died from the mosquito-borne disease in the 24 hours ending Monday morning.

The latest fatalities have pushed the national death toll to 249 so far this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, health authorities recorded 942 new hospital admissions, raising the total number of reported dengue cases to 60,791 since January. Most of the recent deaths were reported from areas under Dhaka South City Corporation, as well as the Mymensingh and Rajshahi divisions.

The DGHS said 2,840 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

Bangladesh experienced a deadlier outbreak last year, when dengue claimed 575 lives. The DGHS recorded a total of 101,214 infections and 100,040 recoveries during the same timeframe in 2024.

Public health officials continue to urge citizens to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms appear, as the virus remains a major seasonal threat across the country.
