| BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday called for a fair and transparent judicial process as the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) prepares to announce its verdict on Monday in the high-profile case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her senior aides.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, Fakhrul highlighted that the case involves five charges of crimes against humanity linked to the violent crackdown during last year’s student-led uprising in Dhaka.
He stressed that Bangladesh deserves a verdict based on justice and transparency.
Speaking earlier at the Jatiya Press Club, Fakhrul warned that certain vested interests were allegedly attempting to exploit the moment to destabilize the country.
“Extreme uncertainty and fear are spreading nationwide ahead of the verdict. We must remain vigilant and prevent any attempts to push Bangladesh into chaos,” he said.
Fakhrul also emphasised the role of citizens, particularly students, in creating an opportunity for democratic renewal.
He urged political actors and the public alike to safeguard this moment and work toward a smoother transition toward democratic governance.
The tribunal will deliver its decision on Hasina and her two aides, who face accusations of crimes against humanity stemming from the July-August 2024 uprising in Dhaka.
The verdict is widely expected to have significant political and social implications, drawing intense attention both domestically and internationally.
