Barishal University Day-2022
  21, February, 2022, 11:18:5:PM

Farhana Yasmin: Barishal University is one of the highest educational institutions located in the Barishal Division of Bangladesh and is the 33rd GovernmentUniversity in the country. 22nd February is the day of Barishal University Day. After 11 years of success, the BarishalUniversity, the heart of Barishal, entered in just 12 years standing on the banks of the river of Kirtankhola. A student of the Department of Sociology at BarishalUniversity named Farhana Yasmin has expressed the views, opinions, successes and expectations of BarishalUniversity`s honourable Vice-chancellor, Persons engaged in important administrative responsibilities and teachers on the 12th Barishal University Day.

Barishal University: Light House of Barishal

On the 22nd of February, the University of Barishal is going to celebrate its 12th University day. And in this regard, programs are elaborately undertaken, in strict compliance with the Covid protocols set by the government, to celebrate the day and highlight its significance. At the beginning of this special day, a rally will be held with the participation of the students, teachers, officers and staff of the University alike. Later, a virtual discussion will be held to mark the importance of the day; the discussion will be chaired by the Vice-chancellor of the University of Barishal. Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, Honourable chief justice of Bangladesh will attend the discussion as the chief guest.

This year the Barishal University Day will be observed in a new fervour and enthusiasm as the day will be observed in the Mujib Year and will coincide with the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of our Independence. From the historic point of view, it is relevant to remember that the idea of the University of Barishal was first envisioned by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It was Bangabandhu’s declaration at the Bell`s Park of Barishal in 1973 that inspired millions of people living in the south-western region of Bangladesh to dream of having a public University in the river-blessed land of Barishal. That dream, however, was thwarted due to the anti-Independence, non-secular forces that intervened in the history of Bangladesh following the heinous killing of the Father of the Nation in 1975.

After decades of there came a fresh breath of hope with Jononetri Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, at the helm of the country in 2008. On the auspicious 22nd of February in 2011, Jononetri Sheikh Hasina, the Honourable Prime Minister of the People`s Republic of Bangladesh formally laid the foundation-stone of the University of Barishal and since then the university has grown from strength to strength in its academic journey. Currently, the university has to credit twenty-four departments under six faculties, as it operates on academic principles that give preferences to ICT-based education and inclusion of youths in the narratives of social transformation. The current administration of the University has made it a strong point since the beginning trying to train up youths to not only make them a marketable workforce but also to guide them to become an enlightened community of learners aware of liberal values and the glorious past of Bangladesh. The University Day, I believe, presents the stakeholders of the University a great opportunity to reaffirm their faith in quality education and reinforce their commitment to making the University of Barishal a lighthouse of knowledge for the southern part of Bangladesh.

Vice-chancellor, University of Basrishal

Barishal University: Dream of Southern

In 1973, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at a gathering at Bell`s Park in Barishal expressed his desire to establish a University in Barishal with the aim of spreading the light of quality education among the people of the southern region. Unfortunately, in 1975, the father of the nation was killed. After that some initiatives were taken but they were not fruitful. Finally on 22 February 2011, the daughter of Bangabandhu Hon`ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of BarishalUniversity. The main goal of the university is to excel in education and research for the welfare of the country and humanity. BarisalUniversity is going to enter its 12th year after completing 11 years of success. Although relatively new among the 49 public Universities in the country as a center for knowledge creation and distribution, it is advancing at a fast pace. Although the global corona epidemic, Barisal University is working to spread practice of Bangabandhu`s life and work and consciousness of Liberation War among the younger generation through academic, research and co-educational activities through specific steps. I strongly believe that very soon BarishalUniversity will take its place in the national and international arena through the gradual improvement of academic, research and co-educational activities.

My expectations: The Barishal University will be a High Ranked University

University means setting research-based criteria beyond traditional and biblical knowledge. In 1973, the then Prime Minister, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman expressed his desire at a city rally to spread the light of this quality education. That is to establish a university in Barishal. Subsequently, on 22 February 2011, BarishalUniversity was established by laying the foundation stone under the leadership of Hon`ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu. Its education activities started on January 24, 2012. As BarishalUniversity is located on the east side of KirtankholaRiver in the Barishal division, students can easily feel the beautiful, pure natural vibration. Such an environment is well suited for new knowledge creation and research work.

My expectations are- the University of Barishal will be a high ranked university in the world and I believe it is not impossible. If the authority wants they can prepare a work plan on the basis of the indicators of ranking and starts following it. We have many efficient academicians who can actively contribute to enriching the academic environment of the university. The university should take necessary steps to utilize the expertise of those faculties especially to start its journey to be the high ranked university in the world.

Barishal University is in the way of an Excessive Pleasant Tradition

22 February. BarisalUniversity, which is thrilled to be a lighthouse in South Bengal, celebrates its 11th founding anniversary. A university has now not been capable of broadening its own culture in the eleven years because it became totally based. The university, on the other hand, is in the way of an excessive pleasant tradition. BarishalUniversity has maintained its success since its start, and in a reasonably short time frame, it has consolidated its position as one of the most excellent universities in the country. The noble vow of BarishalUniversity is to develop a digital Bangladesh rich in knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment. This educational institution will be a pilgrimage ground for Bengalis practising highbrow ideas and mindfulness, not just in the realm of education and research. By assessing the ever-changing lifestyle, reality, innovation, and evolution in the country’s needs, the teachers and students of this university will provide a suitable route to the nation. This is what I am looking for on the 11th founding anniversary of BarishalUniversity.

Dr. Md. Abdul Kaium

President, Barishal University Teachers’ Association.

Our Barishal University, Our Dream

The official journey of BarishalUniversity started by laying the foundation stone on 22 February 2011. Though “The Barishal University (Amendment) Act” was passed before this in 2010. The people of Barishal, who are always awake, played an important role in the field of education nationally before and after independence, but the demand for a university has affected everyone. In 1973, in a speech at the then Bell`s Park, Barishal, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared that if there would be any other public university outside Dhaka, it would be in Barishal. Due to the political upheaval in 1975, Bangabandhu`s dream did not come true for a long time. Finally, the long-cherished dream of the people of Barishal came true with the help of his worthy daughter, the Hon`ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People`s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina. Today, BarishalUniversity is the beacon of the south, the highest educational institution of south Bengal. Initially started with only 6 departments and 400 students, the university now has 24 departments and more than 6,000 students. Although only six teachers joined in the first recruitment, there are currently 189 teachers, most of whom are young. BarishalUniversity is a lively gathering of young teachers and students. The faculty and students of BarishalUniversity are gaining a national and international reputation. Starting its journey on the college campus of BarishalZillaSchool, BarishalUniversity stands on its own campus in the midst of captivating greenery with its head held high. Our students are making their presence in the job market of the country. In the meantime, our students have taken their place in various important government and non-government institutions including public universities, BCS, judiciary, banks. Although there are many infrastructural problems, our students are overcoming them. My expectation is that in the future BarishalUniversity will take an important place in the national and international rankings in terms of research and quality education. Students of BarishalUniversity will lead in building a developed country and golden Bangladesh of Bangabandhu`s dream.

Barishal University: Emotion of Barishal

The dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and millions of people of Barishal became true through establishing BarishalUniversity by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2011. The dream of Bangabandhu reflected the need for a higher study centre in Southern Bengal. After a decade of establishment, this university has already been the centre of study, research and culture. The green campus on the Kirtankhola river bank is a student-friendly campus. Through the guidance of present Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Arefin Matin, this university has become the centre of research and study on Bangabandhu and Bangladesh. Many of our students have joined both public and private sector jobs after graduation. Some also went abroad for pursuing higher studies. I believe highly skilled young faculty and Student-friendly administration will lead to a hub of education, research and human resources amid Southern Bengal. I hope, soon this university will make a place in both national and international communities. My best wishes for the betterment of BarishalUniversity. This university has continued online classes, online examinations and webinars even during hard times of COVID 19 situations. Hence, students were connected even by staying at home. Student-teacher bonding is strong and there are numerous initiatives taken by the departments and authorities to support students. Hope such bonding and support will increase day by day and we together will uphold our dignity. At last, on the 11th anniversary of BarishalUniversity, I wish for its prosperity and growth.

University of Barishal: A Dream Came True

The journey of BarishalUniversity started on 22nd February 2011. There was a dream for a public university here in Barishal. In 1973, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared that if there would be any other public university outside Dhaka, it would be in Barishal. At last, the dream came true with the help of Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter, the Hon`ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People`s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina. In recent times, BarishalUniversity is the largest educational institution in south Bengal. Teachers are trying their best to ensure quality education. Following teachers guidance, students are actively involved in their academic and co-curricular activities. There are many student-oriented organizations here that are playing a great role in making our country enriched. I wish for every success on the 12th anniversary of the University of Barishal.
