Analysts say many Bangladeshi students go aboard for studies. In most cases, they do part-time jobs there. Then what is the harm if the students of our country do part-time jobs in the traffic management for greater interest of the country and earn some money? It is a good idea of the government to engage the students in part-time jobs with remunerations. Their jobs will help the nation to tide over the crises and also help them financially.

In the wake of the drastic fall and fleeing of the previous Awami League-led government of Sheikh Hasina, the entire police department of the country fell was in such haphazard a situation and stark difficulties, which the country never experienced after the liberation war of 1971.

The part and parcel of the government, the police system, when fell into such crisis including traffic management , the students of our shcools, colleges and universities came forward with a helping hand to carry out the onerous traffic duties of the police in the country.

Even school boys and girls rendered services of traffic police up till the late evening in the capital city, Dhaka. They earned huge praises from different people of the country and also the world people saw the performances of our students with great admiration.

Still now the police department has not come into full order and operation as much police force did not join to work even after austere notices from the authority umpteenth times. Now the Home ministry has sacked 228 trainee sub-inspectors from the training academy. In this situation, the necessities of police force have become acute. To tide over the crisis, Home ministry has engaged as many as 300 students on the staff of the traffic police to discharge traffic work in the city with honorarium.

Analysts said, it is a good decision on the part of the government to appoint students on part-time duty of traffic police in the city with pay.

They said, many Bangladeshi students go aboard for studies. They read in the institutions of foreign countries, but in most cases, they do part-time jobs there. Then what is the harm if the students of our country do here the part-time jobs in the traffic management and earn some money. They said, it is a good idea of the government to engage the students in part-time jobs with facilities to earn some money. Their jobs will help the nation to tide over the crises and also help them financially.

In this regards, the Home Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that 300 students have been formally engaged to work with the police to bring order to traffic management in Dhaka city. They will also be honoured.

He also said that 300 students have been initially included in the `traffic side` program of DMP announced from October 21 to November 4, later this number will be increased.

He said these things during the inauguration of `DMP`s Traffic Week-2024` at Rajarbag Police Lines in the capital.

The Home Affairs Adviser said, in the first instance, around 300 students will work on the traffic side. This number will be increased later. We will give them a reward; I don`t want to mention this reward here. A reasonable remuneration will be given to them.

At present, more than 2 crore people live in this city, he said, as the roads of Dhaka are inadequate, they are struggling to carry the capacity of vehicles. Dhaka does not have the required number of roads. With the increase in population, people`s exposure to Dhaka cannot be reduced.

Although the country`s economic development, infrastructure has increased, the modernization of the transport system has not been significant. It has not been possible to significantly provide comfortable public and private vehicles for the people on the main roads.

Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also said that numerous vehicles including rickshaws, wheelbarrows ply on the same road. People are approaching these vehicles for their needs. As a result, it is becoming difficult to implement an orderly traffic system in Dhaka metropolis.
