Sheikh Hasina to be brought back from India: Chief Adviser
  17, November, 2024, 10:52:43:PM

Interim government Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has declared his administration`s commitment to bringing fallen autocrat Sheikh Hasina back from India and ensuring justice for all crimes, including enforced disappearances and murders, over the past 15 years.

In his address to the nation on Sunday (Nov 17) evening, marking the 100th day of the interim government, Dr. Yunus vowed justice for every loss during the recent July-August revolution and the oppressive rule that preceded it.

"To sustain autocratic rule, law enforcement was turned against the people. During the revolution, nearly 1,500 student and worker protesters sacrificed their lives," Yunus said. He added that his administration is meticulously documenting these deaths. Over 19,931 individuals were injured in the movement, with treatment facilitated at 13 hospitals in Dhaka and specialized facilities elsewhere.

Dr. Yunus stressed, "Each murder will be brought to justice. The investigations into the July-August killings are progressing well, and we will demand the extradition of fallen autocrat Sheikh Hasina from India."

The Nobel laureate also revealed that a special commission investigating enforced disappearances has so far identified 1,600 cases up to October, estimating the number could exceed 3,500.

In his speech, the Chief Adviser paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War and those who lost their lives in the July-August revolution. He expressed gratitude to those who resisted the oppressive regime, acknowledging their sacrifices and injuries, including loss of eyesight and permanent disabilities.

"We remember with deep respect all who fought under the nine-point and one-point demands to save the country from a brutal dictatorship. We are indebted to you, your siblings, and your children who stood tall in this revolution," Dr. Yunus said.

Reflecting on the first 100 days of his government, Yunus stated, "Together, we are rebuilding this nation that was devastated by autocratic rule. Following the July-August revolution, we inherited a country in chaos. It is now our collective responsibility to restore order and hope."

The Chief Adviser reiterated his commitment to ensuring accountability and justice for all atrocities committed during Sheikh Hasina`s tenure, promising a thorough investigation into every crime.
