BNP believes in multi-party democracy: Rizvi
  25, November, 2024, 11:23:32:AM

(BSS)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today said BNP believes in multi-party democracy and freedom of expression and it doesn’t support taking laws in own hands.

“If anyone makes any wrongdoing, he or she should be handed over to law enforcement agencies. Laws cannot be taken in own hands by any means,” he told a press conference at BNP’s Natore District Unit office here.

He said BNP has expelled, served show-cause notices or suspended membership of about 800 leaders for breaching organizational discipline.

Earlier today, the BNP leader visited family members of Ujjal Mondal who was beaten up and handed over to police few days back at Kalikapur village under Baraigram upazila in the district. Later, court granted him bail.

A video clip of beating up Ujjal went viral on social media.

About the formation of new Election Commission, Rizvi expressed his hope that the new commission will be able to hold a free and fair election to meet the people’s aspirations.

In the past, voter-less elections were held during the Awami League regime, he said.
The BNP leader said the whole country was under intimidation for the last 15 and half years as “Hasina created Mafia League through fascism”.

Hasina could not sustain in power by enforcing misrule and had to flee the country, he said.

Razvi said, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia didn’t leave the country and its people even after enduring physical and mental torture, false cases and harassment of AL government.

Fakruddin-Moinuddin’s conspiracy also couldn’t force Begum Zia to leave the country, he mentioned.

Rizvi urged the party leaders and workers to remain vigilant to keep continue journey of democracy in future.

BNP’s assistant finance secretary Mahmudur Rahman Sumon and national executive committee member Mahbubul Islam were present in the press conference.
