Programmes taken to celebrate Victory Day in Khulna

(BSS) - Khulna district administration has taken various programmes to celebrate the Victory Day on December 16.

The programmes were taken at a preparatory meeting held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) recently with DC Muhammad Saiful Islam in the chair, said a PID handout today.

The programmes of the day will begin with gun salute at Metropolitan Police Lines at Boyra in the city.

Other programmes include hoisting of the national flag atop all public and private buildings and placing wreaths at Gallamari Martyred Memorial in the city.

Khulna divisional commissioner will hoist national flag formally around 8:30 am at the district stadium on the Victory Day. Prizes will be distributed among the winners of art competition that will be followed by a cultural event around 9:00am.

A day-long colourful Victory Fair (Bijoy Mela) with locally made handicraft product will be held at the same venue. A reception programme to the freedom fighters and the children of Shaheed freedom fighters will be held at the Zila Shilpokola Academe around 11:30am.

Ships of the Bangladesh Navy will remain open for three and a half hours from 2:00pm at BIWTA Rocket Ghat for all people. Trains, launches and ships will be illuminated at the Railway Station, BIWTA Ghat and Steamer Ghat while roads and road islands will be decorated with national flags and colourful flags in the city.

Charity football, T20 cricket match, boat race and Ha-du-du completion among the school, college and madrasa students will be held on the Victory Day in each upazila and the city. Video documentary based on Liberation War will be screened at the Shaheed Hadis Park, Shibbari Intersection and other open places in the city. Films based on Liberation War will also be screened at the cinema halls free of cost.

Special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country. Improved diet will be served at all hospitals, orphanage centers and jails on the day.

Improved food will be served at jails, hospitals, old shelters, orphanages and daycare centers marking the Victory Day.

City`s all amusement parks, divisional museum and Rabindranath Smrity museum at Daxindhi will remain open on the day.

Bangladesh Betar, Khulna, will broadcast special programmes while local newspapers will publish special supplements highlighting the importance of the day.

A discussion on Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin`s contributions to Liberation War will be held in Rupsha Ghat area on December 17.
