The 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will be held by July 30, 2026, said Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to Chief Adviser, on Tuesday (December 17).
"The government is working on the reforms and organising the election, and if everything remains quite fine then the next general election will be held by July 30, 2026," he said while addressing a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy on the contemporary issues on Tuesday evening.
On Monday, Prof Mohammad Yunus, who heads the interim government, announced that the general elections in Bangladesh will be held in late 2025 or early 2026.
Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AKM Nasir Uddin said preparations were going on for the next general election.
Talking to journalists at the Nirbachan Commission Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital, he said the Election Commission (EC) is ready to hold the election at any time if the government wants so. "The Chief Adviser has announced a time-limit. We will proceed keeping it in mind. However, we have a workplan to organize the election," he said.
Meanwhile, during the press conference, the press secretary said none of those who had ordered or committed killings would not be spared. The government is determined to try the culprits bringing them under the purview of law.
