Coast Guard has rescued 13 fishermen who had been adrift at sea for four days after their fishing trawler`s engine failed from Sundarban`s Dublar char area at Bay of Bengal.
Coast Guard Headquarters media officer Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Siam-ul-Haq, confirmed the information on Thursday (March 6).
Coast Guard official said that national emergency service (999) informed them that a fishing boat named `MV Ma Babar Doa` had been adrift at sea for four days with its engine malfunctioning on Wednesday at around 2 PM. The boat was located approximately 10 nautical miles west of the Sundarban`s Dublar char at sea.
On information, Coast Guard`s western zone dispatched a four-member rescue team from the Dublar char outpost immediately.
The rescue team quickly located the boat and successfully rescued all 13 crew members alive.
The Coast Guard officer further mentioned that the rescue team later brought the boat and the crew members safely to Dublar char. Upon questioning the fishermen, it was revealed that the fishing boat had departed from Patharghata in Barishal 12 days earlier.
