BDR carnage: Probe commission summons Hasina, 14 others

The National Independent Investigation Commission, tasked with probing the 2009 BDR carnage, has issued a public notice summoning 15 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to provide testimony as part of its ongoing inquiry.

In a special notice released on Saturday, the Commission emphasised the urgency of completing the testimony process by March 31 due to time constraints.

Alongside Sheikh Hasina, the summoned individuals include former army chiefs General Moeen U Ahmed and Aziz Ahmed; Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, ex-security adviser to the prime minister; Fazle Noor Taposh, former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation; Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, former MP from Gopalganj-2; Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former MP from Dhaka-13; Mirza Azam, former MP from Jamalpur-3; AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former MP from Dhaka-8; Brigadier General (Retd) Muhammad Shamsul Alam, former commander of the 44th Rifle Battalion; Lieutenant General (Retd) Molla Fazle Akbar, former Director General of Forces Intelligence; Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, former Director General of RAB; Abdul Kahar Akond, former police officer; Nur Mohammad, former Inspector General of Police; and Monirul Islam, former Additional IGP.

The Commission has requested that the witnesses submit their proposed schedules in writing within seven days of the notice’s publication. They may do so via phone, email, or letter, whichever is most convenient. The notice also stated that online testimony can be facilitated through video conferencing if needed.
