US President Donald Trump, commenting that many countries are interested in taking the people of Gaza, has again spoken about emptying the Gaza Strip.
He said, "If you take the Palestinians to other countries, there are many countries that will take them, and you (Palestinians) will have a freedom zone, a free zone where people will not have to die every day."
He made these remarks to reporters at the White House on Monday (April 7th) after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, he did not specify which countries he wants to move the Palestinians to.
Earlier, in January, after assuming office for his second term as US President, Trump expressed his desire to empty the Gaza Strip by relocating its Palestinian residents to other countries. He called on Egypt and Jordan to shelter the residents of Gaza for this purpose.
Following his meeting with Netanyahu again, Trump described Gaza as a great place for building housing and suggested that it would be good if the United States had a peacekeeping force for the "control and ownership" of the Gaza Strip.
Referring to Gaza as hell, the US President said that no one wants to live in Gaza under the current circumstances. However, Trump wants to establish a free zone in Gaza.
He further said that in 2005, the occupying Israel withdrew all its soldiers from Gaza. Two years later, Hamas took control of Gaza through a coup.
Since then, they have been in power there. The US President also criticized why Israel withdrew its troops and settlements from Gaza in 2005. In his opinion, Israel withdrew its forces from Gaza for peace, but that peace did not come.
It is to be noted that Israel occupied Gaza after the Six-Day Arab War in 1967 and continued its occupation there for 40 long years.
