8 brick kilns fined Tk 48 lakh in Dinajpur

(BSS)- The Department of Environment (DoE) of the district fined Taka 48 lakh to the owners of eight brick kilns in three upazilas of the district for illegally running their operations.

Following a two-day drive, the DoE fined Taka six lakh each to the owners ofeight brick kilns located in Sadar, Chirirbandar and Parbatipur  upazilas of the district, Assistant Director of the district DoE Md. Molin Mia, confirmed the matter at 12noon today.

"Due to lack of approval of the Department of Environment (DoE), violating various regulations and burning bricks illegally in contravention of the
Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kilns Establishment (Control) Act, the brick
kilns were fined," he said, adding that these kinds of operations will
continue against all illegal brick kilns to protect environment.

Besides, the activities of two more brick kilns have been fully stopped by
extinguishing their fire and demolishing the kilns and cutting the supply of
electricity to other two brick kilns which were closed earlier.

Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun led the mobile court while Inspector
of the DoE, Dinajpur Provati Rani Roy delivered the prosecution.
