Eid-ul-Azha: Gazette issued for 10-day holiday
  7, May, 2025, 3:54:58:PM

The government issued a gazette notification on Wednesday (May 7) announcing a 10-day holiday for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, according to the Ministry of Public Administration.

The notice, listed under serial No. 37 of the Ministry’s records, states that June 11 and 12 (Wednesday and Thursday) have been declared public holidays by executive order in celebration of the Muslim festival.

To offset the extended break, government offices will remain open on two Saturdays—May 17 and May 24—which are ordinarily weekly holidays.

As per the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will be closed during the 10-day period, with the exception of the two working Saturdays.

However, essential services will remain operational throughout the holiday. These include electricity, water, gas and fuel supply, fire service, port operations, sanitation, telecommunications and internet services, postal services, and related transport and staff.

Hospitals and emergency services—including healthcare workers, and transport of medicines and medical equipment—will also remain outside the purview of the holiday. Offices engaged in critical or emergency functions will continue operating as usual.

The Bangladesh Bank is expected to issue separate directives for banking operations during the holiday period, while the Supreme Court will provide guidance on judicial proceedings.

The decision was finalised at an Advisory Council meeting held on Tuesday (May 6), officials said.
