Liton dedicates series victory against Pakistan to victims of plane crash
  22, July, 2025, 11:54:13:PM

Bangladesh Captain Liton Das dedicated their maiden T20 series victory against Pakistan to the victims of the tragic plane crash in Capital’s Uttara.

Liton’s side registered a thrilling 8-run victory over Pakistan in the second T20 International today to confirm the three-match series with a game to spare.

“This series win is fully dedicated to the victims and to their families,” Liton said after the victory. “We know that we can`t fill up the void of the lives that were lost, but at least from our side, this series is dedicated to them."

Bangladesh were bowled out for 133 in 20 over with Jaker Ali Anik waging a lone battle to make 48 ball-55. Mahedi Hasan gave him some support with 33 as they added 53-run for the fifth wicket after Bangladesh were reduced to 28-4.

But the bowlers bowled in disciplined manner to defend the total by wrapping up Pakistan for 125 in 19.2 overs.

“As a team we played really well,” Liton said. “At that moment when we lost the toss, we batted. We did not bat well in the power play and lost a couple of wickets. But that way Mahedi and Jaker batted. It`s amazing to watch.”

Liton said given the sluggish nature of the wicket, they knew the total they put on the board could be winning one.

“When we see the wicket, it looks like 130-140, wicket. So we all know anything above 130 we can defend,” he said.

Pakistan which slumped to 30-6 still raised a prospect of an unlikely victory, largely thanks to one man show of Faheem Ashraf. He hit 32 ball-51 as Pakistan took the game to the last over before losing the match.

“They batted really well. Bowlers also bowled very well in those 10 to 12 overs. When the ball was new, it was more difficult to bat on this pitch,” Liton said.

“When the ball was a little bit wet, this came easily to the bat. But after 12 overs, we didn`t execute our plan and couple of mistakes in the field. So, that costs a little bit. That`s why the game was deeper as well.”
