Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Thursday said the government is prepared to assist BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman with travel documents should he decide to return to Bangladesh.
“The decision to return is entirely his, but if he needs help with passports or travel papers, we will provide the necessary support,” Touhid told reporters at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
When asked if Tarique had applied for a passport at Bangladesh High Commission in London, the adviser said he had no information on the matter.
Touhid emphasized that Tarique must first decide whether to come back.
Regarding Dhaka’s extradition request for ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to New Delhi, Touhid said there has been no update and no second request has been sent so far.
On the issue of international election observers, he noted that a pre-election exploratory mission from European Union has already visited Bangladesh, but added, “So far, I have no further updates,” stating that Election Commission is managing the process.
