Ban on ISKCON demanded in Dhaka
  24, October, 2025, 9:59:35:PM

Intifada Bangladesh has called for the banning of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) in Bangladesh if investigations reveal any involvement in criminal activities or financial support for unlawful acts.

The group also demanded legal action against individuals found complicit.

The demands were announced during a protest rally held on Friday at the northern entrance of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka. After the gathering, demonstrators marched toward Shapla Square in Motijheel, concluding the event peacefully.

In addition to the call regarding ISKCON, the organization outlined five other key demands.

The demands are as follows.

Public apology from police over their handling of the recent Gazipur rape case, including statements perceived as victim-blaming. The group urged full transparency in law enforcement conduct and swift arrest and punishment of the perpetrators.

An independent and expedited investigation into the abduction and murder of a woman in Tongi, with a demand for exemplary justice for those responsible.

Formulation of a national policy to combat institutionalized Islamophobia and anti-Islamic sentiment within state structures and public institutions.

Implementation of specific legal safeguards to protect the dignity, safety, and rights of Muslim women across the country.

Security measures for imams, community leaders, and civil society activists engaged in efforts to counter religious discrimination and defend Islamic values.

Ahmed Rafique, a senior member of Intifada Bangladesh, criticized what he described as widespread silence from both state institutions and civil society in the face of injustices affecting Muslim communities—particularly women. He accused political leaders of prioritizing image management over substantive justice and accountability.

“We cannot remain silent while our religious sentiments are disrespected and our women are victimized,” Rafique said. “The state must act decisively to ensure justice, protection, and dignity for all.”

Authorities have not yet responded to the group’s demands. The demonstration ended without incident, with organizers stating they would continue advocacy through lawful means until their concerns are addressed.
