NCP aims to emerge as major political force in next election: Sarjis
  24, October, 2025, 10:05:29:PM

The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) northern chief organiser, Sarjis Alam, has said that the party aims to become a major political force in the upcoming national election—either by forming the government or by acting as a strong opposition.

“We don’t want to be a pet opposition party like the Jatiya Party,” he said while addressing a coordination meeting of NCP’s Dhaka district and metropolitan units at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Center in Shahbagh on Friday evening.

Sarjis announced that convening committees for Dhaka North and South City units would be formed within a couple of days, followed by district-level committees by November. “No committee will be made from Banglamotor. Committees must be formed through meetings at respective branches,” he added.

He further stated that if the committees are properly organized by November, NCP could emerge as one of the two major political parties in the next election. “If we continue our activities properly, NCP will become the strongest political party within the next two years,” he said.

According to Sarjis, the conveners of district and thana committees must be over 40 years of age, while member secretaries must be at least 35.

He also emphasized that those holding posts in the Awami League or opposing the July Charter cannot be part of NCP committees. “People with bad reputations or those who misuse power will not be included. We may verify their records if needed,” he warned.

Sarjis added that individuals from other parties with a clean image can join NCP, but they must not retain allegiance to their previous party’s ideology.
