Daffodil, City Univ students clash; vehicles torched, offices looted
  27, October, 2025, 1:48:24:PM

A major clash erupted between students of Daffodil International University and City University in the Khagan area of Ashulia, Savar, from Sunday midnight to early Monday, turning the area into a battlefield.

The incidents, which involved repeated attacks, vandalism, and arson, continued until 4:30 am. City University reportedly suffered the most damage. Students claimed that law enforcement did not provide any assistance during the violence.

Eyewitnesses said Daffodil students reside together in a house known as the “Bachelor Paradise Hostel.” On Sunday evening, a City University student allegedly spat from a motorcycle, hitting a Daffodil student. This triggered a verbal argument between students of the two universities. Around 9:00 pm, approximately 40–50 City University students, armed with homemade weapons and bricks, attacked the Daffodil students’ hostel, causing significant damage.

After videos of the incident circulated on social media, over a thousand Daffodil students gathered at the site and clashed with City University students. The university’s proctorial team initially failed to control the situation.

After midnight, Daffodil students reportedly entered City University premises, trapping students and carrying out vandalism. They looted administrative offices, destroying important items, and set fire to three buses and a private car. Vandalism also affected five other vehicles. Firecrackers were used at dawn to create panic. At least 50 students from both sides were injured in the clashes.

A City University student said that by 4:30 am, fires were visible in several parts of the campus. Despite administrative intervention, chasing and counter-chasing continued, and some vehicles were set on fire.

SI Habibur Rahman, duty officer of Savar Police Station, said, “The situation is under control. Officers are present at the scene.”
