The High Court has issued a rule asking why Tk 2 crore should not be providedas compensationto the family of the man killed after a metro rail bearing pad came loose.

The court also directed the formation of an expert committee to investigate overall metro rail safety and accident-related issues and submit a report within 30 days.

The order was given on Wednesday by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Asif Hasan.

The hearing was conducted by Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun and Advocate Tanvir Ahmed on behalf of the petitioners.

Earlier, a writ petition was filed seeking the formation of a committee to assess the quality of bearing pads used in the metro rail and all flyovers. The petition requested that the committee verify whether the bearing pads meet proper quality standards. The victim, Abul Kalam, a young man from Ishorpati village in Naria upazila of Shariatpur, died on October 26 around 12:30 pm in Farmgate, Dhaka, when a bearing pad from the metro rail came loose and fell.
