The theme for Women’s Day 2026, “Give to Gain,” highlights a simple but powerful idea: when we invest in women’s rights, opportunities, and leadership, society as a whole benefits. Empowering women is not only about fairness; it is about strengthening families, workplaces, and communities. This theme calls for removing the systemic barriers and biases that still limit women’s progress in many areas of life. Whether at work, at home, or in society, real change requires conscious efforts to eliminate gender-based discrimination. “Give to Gain” also urges governments, organizations, and individuals to take meaningful steps to advance women’s rights and expand their participation in every sphere of life. By giving women equal space and opportunity, it is possible to gain a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous society.

PSTC has a long history of observing International Women’s Day both in its implementing areas and at the Head Office level. This year, on March 8, 2026, PSTC organized a discussion meeting at the Head Office, where staff members came together to reflect on the significance of the day. The meeting served as a platform for open dialogue about the rights of women and girls, the importance of gender equity, and the ongoing challenges posed by gender-based discrimination and violence.

A keynote presentation addressed the current situation of Bangladeshi women within the broader socioeconomic context, highlighting the challenges they face in various sectors and discussing potential pathways for progress and empowerment. The presentation examined issues such as access to education, employment opportunities, social barriers, and gender inequality, while also emphasizing the importance of policy support, institutional reforms, and community engagement to create a more inclusive and equitable future for women in Bangladesh.

Youth and the staff members shared their views on the current gender dynamics in society and explored strategies for addressing these challenges. They agreed that efforts to promote gender equality must start within the family unit, as social norms and values are often shaped by early socialization. They emphasized the role of parents, educators, and community leaders in fostering attitudes of equality and respect from a young age.

Dr. Mahbubul Alam, Head of Programs of PSTC highlighted its ongoing work to empower women and girls through various community programs. By providing education, vocational training, and health services, PSTC has made significant strides in improving the lives of women and girls, equipping them with the tools they need to create brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
