  18, April, 2026, 11:09:54:PM

At least 20 individuals, including Pakundia Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) and four police personnel, were injured in a clash between two villages over a football match in Kishoreganj’s Pakundia upazila on Saturday.

The incident took place in Tan Lakkhia and Hapania villages under Pakundia municipal area, marking the second-day clash following a dispute that began on Friday.

According to locals, an argument broke out between players and supporters of the two villages during a football match on Friday afternoon, which later escalated into violence and continued into the night. The tension resurfaced on Saturday morning, leading to renewed confrontation between the two sides.

Witnesses said both groups attacked each other with sticks and vandalised several houses during the attack. Police intervened to bring the situation under control but faced resistance, resulting in a chase and counter-chase.

During the clash, Pakundia Police Station OC SM Arifur Rahman and four other police officials were injured, along with at least 16 individuals from both sides.

Additional police and law enforcement agencies were deployed in the area to restore order. The situation remains tense, with heightened security measures in place to prevent further escalation.

OC SM Arifur Rahman said they were injured while trying to calm the situation. “No written complaint has been filed yet and no arrests have been made so far. Additional police have been deployed to maintain law and order,” he added.
