Flood concerns as 7 rivers flowing above danger level
  4, May, 2026, 5:41:1:PM

At least seven rivers in the northeastern region of the country are flowing above danger levels, raising concerns of potential flooding following heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours.

According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board, moderate to heavy rainfall has been recorded across the region.

In the last 24 hours, 74mm of rainfall was recorded in Jariajanjail of Netrakona district, 74mm in Habiganj and 61mm in Chadpur Bagan.

As per the report of 9AM, water levels at eight stations across seven rivers in three haor basin districts have exceeded pre-monsoon danger levels.

The forecast states that water levels of several rivers remain above danger marks despite mixed trends. In Sunamganj, the Naljur River rose by 11cm to 40cm above danger level at Jagannathpur.

In Netrakona, the Dhanu-Baulai river increased by 9cm to 8cm above danger level at Jariajanjail, while the Someshwari fell by 14 cm, but remained 50cm above danger level at Kalmakanda.

The Bhugai-Kangsha river dropped by 22cm, but still flowed 67cm above danger level at Jariajanjail.

Meanwhile, the Mogra River rose by 5cm to 79cm above danger level at Netrakona station and remained steady at 27cm above danger level at Atpara.

Water levels in rivers across the haor region of Sunamganj are rising slowly at a rate of 0 to 1cm per hour, indicating a gradual but concerning trend that could worsen if rainfall continues.
