Primary Education Award-2026: Tangail DC Earns Top Divisional Honor

Special Correspondent: Sharifa Haque, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tangail, has been selected as the Best Deputy Commissioner in Dhaka Division under the Primary Education Award-2026, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the development of primary education and exemplary administrative leadership.

The announcement was made through an official notification signed by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Chairman of the Divisional Selection Committee for the Primary Education Award-2026, Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, along with the committee’s Member Secretary and Divisional Deputy Director of Primary Education, Md. Abdul Aziz.

Since assuming office in Tangail, Sharifa Haque has earned widespread appreciation for her integrity, efficiency, and people-oriented leadership. A member of the 25th BCS Administration Cadre, she is serving as the second female Deputy Commissioner of the district and has gained the trust of citizens through a range of public welfare initiatives.

Her commitment to improving primary education has been particularly noteworthy. Under her leadership, various initiatives have been undertaken to enhance the learning environment in schools, increase student attendance, motivate teachers, and ensure a child-friendly educational atmosphere. She firmly believes that strengthening primary education is essential for ensuring the country`s sustainable development and prosperous future.

In addition to her educational initiatives, Sharifa Haque has successfully implemented several important national programs. Her leadership in conducting the National Parliamentary Election in a peaceful, transparent, and credible manner has also received significant recognition.

An accomplished academic with higher degrees from reputed educational institutions at home and abroad, she continues to advocate for transparency, accountability, and human values in public administration. According to her, the greatest achievement of a public administrator is earning the trust and confidence of the people.

“Government services should be delivered in a way that makes people feel that the state stands beside them and works for their welfare,” she said.

Her selection as the best Deputy Commissioner in Dhaka Division has been warmly welcomed by educationists, teachers, guardians, government officials, and residents of Tangail. Many believe that the initiatives she has introduced for the advancement of primary education can serve as a model for other districts across the country.

The recognition is being viewed not only as a personal achievement for Sharifa Haque but also as a matter of pride and honor for the people of Tangail. Her education-friendly administration, citizen-focused leadership, and development-oriented initiatives have made this distinction a significant milestone for the district.

In her personal life, Sharifa Haque is married and the mother of two children. Her husband, Md. Golam Rabbani, is a prominent businessman. Both Sharifa Haque and Golam Rabbani studied in the same batch (1996–97) at the University of Dhaka.
