Government Prioritizing Eco-Friendly Initiatives to Build a Modern, Green and Livable Bangladesh — Civil Aviation Minister
  19, July, 2026, 10:26:2:PM

Kamrul Hasan: The government is placing strong emphasis on environmentally friendly initiatives across the country to protect the environment, address the adverse impacts of climate change, and build a modern, green, and livable Bangladesh for future generations. As part of this commitment, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, inaugurated the "One Child, One Tree" program in Manikganj.

Speaking at the event, she said that development is not limited to the construction of roads, bridges, or buildings; rather, sustainable development can only be achieved by protecting nature and preserving the environment.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the "One Child, One Tree" program as the chief guest on Sunday (July 19) at Nabagram Government Primary School in Manikganj Sadar Upazila. The event was organized by the Upazila Administration with the objective of building a greener and more livable Bangladesh for future generations.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said: "Under the leadership of BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the present government is working to build a modern, green, and livable Bangladesh.

We believe that development is not merely about constructing bridges, roads, or buildings. Development becomes meaningful only when nature is protected, the environment remains safe, and people become environmentally conscious.

Planting a tree is not simply planting a sapling; it is a commitment, a responsibility, and a precious gift for future generations."

She further stated that the event was not merely the inauguration of a program but an effort to build a nationwide social movement for environmental conservation through children. By placing a tree in the hands of every child, the initiative aims to sow the seeds of a greener Bangladesh for the future.

During the event, the Minister expressed her gratitude to the people of Manikganj for their trust and support. She sought their continued cooperation and prayers to fulfill the district`s development aspirations and the expectations of its people. She later formally inaugurated the program by planting a tree alongside government officials, public representatives, and other distinguished guests.

The event was attended by senior officials of the district and upazila administrations, leaders of the BNP and its affiliated organizations, teachers, students, guardians, and other prominent local personalities.
Environmental experts believe that, as one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, Bangladesh can greatly benefit from initiatives promoting tree plantation, biodiversity conservation, and environmental awareness among children.

Under the "One Child, One Tree" program, assigning every student the responsibility of nurturing a tree is expected to enhance public awareness of environmental protection while fostering a sense of love for nature and responsibility among future generations.

Relevant stakeholders also believe that school-based initiatives of this kind will go beyond tree plantation campaigns and play a significant role in promoting environmental protection, climate awareness, and a culture of sustainable development at the grassroots level.
