3 children die in one day due to measles symptoms in Sylhet

Three more children have died of measles symptoms in Sylhet division in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of measles symptoms and confirmed measles deaths in the division since January 1 this year has increased to 103.

This information was provided in the latest report on measles and rubella patients published by the Sylhet Divisional Health Director`s Office on Monday (July 20) morning.

The three children who died include a 1-year-old child from Habiganj, aged 1 year and 5 months, and two children from Sunamganj, aged 1 year, 7 months and 8 months. All of them were undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

According to the report, no new measles cases were detected in lab tests in the last 24 hours. However, 58 new patients with measles symptoms were admitted to various hospitals during the same period.

Currently, 265 people are undergoing treatment with measles symptoms in various hospitals in Sylhet division. Of these, 105 are under treatment at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 92 at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, 11 at Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical Hospital, 3 at Mount Edora Hospital, 7 at North East Hospital, 3 at Lions Hospital, 1 at Bishwanath Upazila Health Complex, 1 at Fenchuganj Upazila Health Complex, 29 at Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital, 3 at Habiganj District Sadar Hospital and 10 at Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital.

Since January 1 of this year, the number of confirmed measles patients in the department through lab tests has reached 545. Of these, 287 people have been infected in Sunamganj, 180 in Sylhet, 56 in Habiganj and 22 in Moulvibazar.

Meanwhile, according to the statistics of the Health Department, so far 99 people have died due to measles symptoms and 4 people have died due to confirmed measles. The total number of deaths stands at 103. On a district basis, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Sunamganj at 47. This was followed by 35 deaths in Sylhet, 12 in Moulvibazar and 9 in Habiganj.
