INTERNATIONAL: China made an impressive debut at the Third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO), winning one gold and three silver medals at the competition, which concluded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.

The four-member Chinese team ranked among the competition`s top-performing delegations. The eight-day event brought together students from 19 countries, who competed in both theoretical and practical examinations covering a wide range of nuclear science disciplines, including nuclear physics, radiation protection and nuclear fuel.

Representing China, Liu Xiqi, a student from the Wangjing Campus of Beijing No. 80 High School, won the country`s only gold medal.

Reflecting on the achievement, Liu said competing alongside outstanding students from around the world had inspired him to work even harder in science and strive for greater accomplishments in the future.

Talal Alrashidi, a representative of the organizing committee, welcomed China`s participation and praised the Chinese team for its outstanding performance, saying the students demonstrated both academic excellence and a positive competitive spirit.

Wang Feng, head of the Chinese delegation, deputy chief economist at the China Institute of Nuclear Industry Strategy, and president of the China Atomic Energy Press, said the team would continue promoting nuclear science education while encouraging more talented young people to pursue studies, research and careers in the field.

The International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) was launched in 2024 with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It is the world`s first international Olympiad dedicated to nuclear science for young students.
