Four workers have been injured in a chemical drum explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Konabari BSCIC area of Gazipur City Corporation.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Saturday at Bristol Pharma Limited.
The injured individuals are Redwan Ahmed, 25, Hridoy Ahmed Shadhin, 17, Khalid Abdullah, 19, and Arman Hossain, 22. They all are workers of the factory and sustained injuries while they were on the premises.
According to fire service officials and eyewitnesses, the workers went to wash up in a nearby area when the explosion occurred in a tin-shed room where a chemical drum was stored near an electrical switch. The explosion caused burns to the four workers.
Upon receiving the alert, the fire service team rushed to the scene but by the time they arrived, the factory staff had already managed to extinguish the fire. The injured workers were quickly transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, confirmed Rajib Bhumik, the plant manager of the factory.
Konabari Modern Fire Service Station`s warehouse inspector Saiful Islam stated that the explosion occurred due to a chemical drum in the factory. Although fire service personnel arrived at the site promptly, the factory staff had already put out the fire.
"It is suspected that an electrical malfunction near the chemical drum might have caused the explosion. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident," he added.
