A woman was arrested allegedly for killing her minor handicapped son in Savar on Monday.
Police confirmed the detention of the accused, Irfan Jahan Nasrin, 30, in the afternoon.
The victim, Ahmed Ullah Alif, 4, was son of Arifur Rahman Hasan, who works at a battery factory in Narayanganj`s Sonargaon, and physically challenged. He used to live with his mother and his eight-year-old sister, Nazmun Nahar Afrin, at a rented residence in East Rajashon area of Savar.
According to the police and neighbors, Nasrin was reportedly under severe mental stress due to her son`s disabilities. On Sunday night, she allegedly locked herself in a room with Alif and began assaulting him. Neighbors, hearing the commotion, peered through gaps in the door and saw Nasrin hitting her son against the bed.
They broke the door open and found Alif`s body on the floor. The child`s father was informed and Alif was rushed to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
Arifur Rahman Hasan disclosed that his wife had a history of mental health issues and had been under medical care.
Savar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Juwel Mia confirmed the arrest of Nasrin and stated that Alif`s body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway, and a case has been filed.
