Three people were killed and three others were injured in a collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a truck at Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur district on Tuesday.
The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday around 4:30 PM at Chairman bazaar area of Chapair union along the Kaliakair-Fulbaria-Mawna regional road.
However, the identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
According to locals, the auto-rickshaw driver, Karim Mia, was heading toward Kaliakair with five passengers. As the vehicle reached Chairman bazaar area, a truck traveling from Kaliakair to Fulbaria collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw. The impact crushed the auto-rickshaw, killing Nayan, one of the passengers, on the spot.
The five injured individuals were rushed to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where two more succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
Kaliakair Police Station officer-in-charge Riad Mahmud confirmed the incident, stating, "Three people were killed, and three others injured in the collision between the CNG auto-rickshaw and the truck this afternoon. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Necessary legal actions will be taken regarding the incident."
