Tensions between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) of India over the construction of a barbed wire fence along the Chapainawabganj border were temporarily resolved following a flag meeting on Wednesday.
The issue began when the BSF started digging to build the fence near border pillar 177/2 S in Shibganj upazila two days ago. The BGB strongly protested the move, which led the BSF to halt their work twice in response.
When the BSF resumed construction on Wednesday morning, the BGB once again protested, prompting a flag meeting between the two sides.
Lt Col Golam Kibria, Commander of the 59 BGB Battalion, confirmed that both parties reached an agreement during the meeting, stating that no further construction would take place without mutual agreement from the BGB and BSF headquarters.
Reassuring the local population, Lt Col Kibria emphasized that there was no cause for concern, as the BGB continues to vigilantly guard the border.
