Labour Party considers alternative to Tulip
  10, January, 2025, 7:16:26:PM

Tulip Siddiq, a UK Labour MP and niece of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is under scrutiny following allegations linked to a flat scandal and potential corruption.

Reports suggest that Tulip may lose her ministerial post, with her party reportedly considering alternatives to take over her responsibilities.

According to The Times, senior figures close to UK Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer are assessing potential replacements for Tulip.

The move comes amidst mounting pressure after calls for an investigation into her alleged ties to corruption involving the ousted Bangladeshi prime minister.

While Starmer has publicly expressed confidence in Tulip, and a Downing Street spokesperson dismissed reports of shortlisting replacements as "completely untrue,"

The Times claims that formal discussions about her potential successors are underway.

Among those reportedly being considered are Alastair Strathern and Imogen Walker, both aides to UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

The allegations against Tulip include her potential involvement in money laundering tied to Bangladesh’s Rooppur nuclear power project, funded by Russia.

Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the central bank’s financial crimes unit are investigating her and her family, with requests for bank account records already issued.
